Frequently Asked Questions

Well... not VERY frequent, but anyway, these may be questions you have as well...

Hi I've just ran BlueMeUSB v7 on some old usb drives and I now have a Musi2Quarantine folder. All the tracks in folder play on my PC so why are they Quarantined?

Answer:

Files are quarantined if BluMeUSB has tried several times to rename the file and has not succeeded. This could also happen if the (connection to the) flashdrive is a bit slow. If the files seem ok otherwise you could rename the folder musi2Quarantine into something else and run BluMeUSB again.

My flashdrive causes errors when I use BluMeUSB

Answer:

All flashdrives get errors in them after a while, especially if they are in a car all of the time with wildly changing temperatures & humidity. With a windows computer, you can do this:

  • Windows 8: Press Windows key + X.
  • Windows 7/Vista/XP: Right-click on (My) Computer and select Manage.
  • Select Disk Management.
  • In the bottom window, right-click on the partition box, which is found to the right of the box containing the Disk number (ie, Disk 1).
  • In the dropdown menu, select Properties.
  • In the Properties menu, select the Tools tab.
  • Select Check now...

or alternatively:

Command-Line Procedure to execute CHKDSK:

  • Windows 8: Press Windows key (a) + X, then select Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Windows 7/Vista:
  • Click on the Start menu.
  • In the Search programs and files field, type:
  • cmd
  • and press Enter.
  • Windows XP:
  • Click on the Start menu.
  • Select Run...
  • In the Run window, type:
  • cmd
  • and press Enter.
  • From the window, type:
  • chkdsk x: /f

What type of USB stick is best ?

Answer:

Because of the upright position of the USB drive in your Fiat 500 it is vulnerable: a big one could break off or damage your USB connector. So a small size or a flexible one is best. I have been using the same USB drive for more then a year without a problem.

How many songs can I store on my USB drive ?

Answer:

Drives over 16 GB in capacity will give problems. With my 16 GB drive it sometimes takes a minute after switching the USB drive for the system to build the playlist. It may be preferable to have several drives ready to suit your different driving moods !

After treating the drives with BluMeUSB they will load quicker. After all, one GB of MP3 files will give you on average (a bit rate of 128 kbps is perfectly acceptable) 18 hours of listening pleasure ! Use this calculator to find out what the capacity of your USBdrive should be:
